Royce Gracie, His family STARTED the UFC.

    2. Carrot says:

      Gracie

The Gracie families Vale Tudo fights were the inspiration
He then dominated the first UFC
imagine if a boxer won the first couple UFC’s

he is the reason why theres now ground fighting, look at the first UFC hes the only one to ground fight

    3. Zeljko B. says:

Gracie, he practically started the UFC. Ortiz is an ass who gave the UFC a bad name.

    4. KOKOMOJO says:

No if ands or buts about it…Royce Gracie is the man between these two that did the most for the UFC. As others pointed out, Gracie is the man credited with STARTING the UFC way back when. Ortiz is just another big name fighter that came to be years later.

    5. MC says:

      Randy Couture

    6. Joe E says:

gracie by a country mile. the gap is so large here I dont understand why ortiz was mentioned here. thats like asking who did more for football bret farve or will klintmen? gracie is the father of modern MMA. no one short of dana white has done more for the sport.

    7. brian b says:

gracie might seem like the obvious answer but i’m going to go with ortiz. tito at the height of his career was the ufc’s best fighter and far and away the biggest draw and essentially kept the company from going under. during the late 90′s and early 2000′s the only cards that made any money whatsoever were the ones tito headline. he fought in an incredible amount of fights during the time when the ufc was in it’s dark years and was near bankruptcy. without a charismatic, and extremely talented fighter such as ortiz the ufc could very easily have gone under and we wouldnt be having this discussion now.

royce brought bjj into the ufc and that has changed the sport immensely but the thing is almost any member of the gracie family could have been in the early ufc’s and dominated. the same could not be said for tito. like i said earlier, without ortiz i feel the ufc would have ceased to exist.

lets see how many thumbs down i can rack up with this answer from people who never realized how huge of an impact tito has made in the ufc…

Anybody who has watched the UFC since it first broke out in 92-93…has seen it go from a struggling organization to a multi billion dollar business…and Royce Gracie and Tito Ortiz had NOTHING TO DO WITH IT…

What brought this company out of million dollars of debt was the Ultimate Fighter Finale between Forrest Griffin and Stephen Bonner…that fight put the UFC on the map and has made it what it is today….

The UFC was losing money during the time when Tito and Royce were fighting….

    9. Apollo says:

Tito has obviosly sold more tickets to UFC events.

But, without the Gracie family, there wouldn’t be a UFC. The mass appeal was based partly on that skinny kid from Brazil who took on all comers and won in a defensive fashion. Royce didn’t even look athletic. I believe this phenomenon was the factor that made the UFC stand out from all the other full contact organizations before.

tito is more all around but who ahs done more royce helped create UFc and MMa if it wer enot for him no one would be grappling be fore UFC grappling was a joke of fighitng style no one even thought it was legit style
