Question by nataliq n: Is “Android” a trademark?
Well, I know the term “Droid” is licensed by Lucasfilm LTD and Motorola has to pay fee in order to use the word for their “Droid” line of smartphones.

But what about the term “android” as in Android OS by Google? Is it also a trademark and who holds the license in such case?

The easiest way to check is to look at a Google ad for Android OS. If there’s a ® or â„¢ in it, it’s trademarked — or at least, Google claims it is and it would be expensive to try to fight them in court.

Another, not-professional, thought: If the symbol appears after OS, the trademark may apply to the operating system. If it appears after the Android, it may apply to the word by itself.

      Hope that helps.
